'Meet the Kernels' night is Wednesday

The Cedar Rapids Kernels will host their annual "Meet the Kernels" on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

There is no admission charge. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

The Kernels' Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop will be open, as will the Kernels Kids Zone fun area.

The 2013 Kernels will mix and mingle with fans from 5:30 until 7 p.m. A short program will begin at 7 p.m. as Kernels Manager Jake Mauer will introduce the team and talk briefly about the upcoming season.

The Kernels will conduct a short workout under the lights at Perfect Game Field. The practice is open to the public.

Tickets to all 70 Kernels home games, season ticket packages and 10-game Anytime Coupon Books are available through the Kernels ticket office, the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop and on-line at www.kernels.com.

Ticket office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Kernels open the 2013 Midwest League season at home on Thursday against the Beloit Snappers at 6:35 p.m. with the gates opening at 4:30 p.m.

Magnet schedules, courtesy of Mercy Care Community Physicians, will be passed out through the entire opening homestand (April 4-7).
