No.3 Eagles win twice at tourney

FORT DODGE - Shy Saladino and Amber Logemann pitched shutouts Monday as the Kirkwood Eagles won their first two games at the NJCAA Region XI softball tournament.

Saladino (10-0) tossed a two-hitter as the third-ranked Eagles blanked Iowa Central, 6-0, in the opening round in Fort Dodge.

Logemann (21-3) pitched a one-hitter as Kirkwood defeated NIACC, 8-0, in five innings in the second round.

The Eagles (50-3) will face No.6 DMACC in the winner's bracket final on Tuesday at noon. The winner will advance to the championship game Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Kirkwood has won 43 straight games and has a 4-0 record against DMACC this season.

Krysta Tutsch belted her 14th home run of the season and drove in three runs for Kirkwood in the 6-0 victory over Iowa Central. The Eagles got only three hits in the game, but made them count.

Kristen Winter hit her 10th home run of the season and drove in four runs in the 8-0 triumph over NIACC. Lauren Smith hit her fourth homer and drove in two runs.

Kirkwood leads the nation with 86 home runs.
