All seven Metro schools have at least one wrestler in the Class 3A state tournament in Des Moines this week. Better still, the Metro has at least one wrestler in all 14 weight classes.

All told, the Metro has sent 30 wrestlers to Des Moines for the 86th version of this popular IHSAA event at the Wells Fargo Arena.

The tournament began Wednesday in Class 1A and Class 2A, but Class 3A action does not begin until Thursday morning.

Wrestling fans can get all the match-to-match results for the Metro wrestlers on the Metro Sports Report ticker at the top of this page. We'll be reporting the results from Wells Fargo Arena and posting them on the ticker as quickly as possible.

We used the MSR ticker from the state swimming meet in Marshalltown last Saturday and now we're ready to tackle wrestling.

In addition to the ticker-tape results, we'll provide stories, features, breaking news and pictures from the Class 3A state tournament from start to finish.

Linn-Mar has eight wrestlers in the state tournament, but Joel Northrup's situation at 112 pounds could play a role in whether the Lions challenge for a top-5 finish or not. As reported Tuesday night, Northrup might decide to forfeit his opening-round match to avoid wrestling a girl (Cassy Herkelman from Cedar Falls).

Prairie qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament and is seeking a top-10 finish in the team standings. Kennedy and Washington have four wrestlers in the tournament, Jefferson sent three to Des Moines, while Xavier and Marion have one man apiece.

Linn-Mar's wrestlers are Alijah Jeffery (37-4) at 103 pounds, Northrup (35-4) at 112, Jeremy Severin (31-20) at 130, Ross Lembeck (27-4) at 135, Josh Pederson (34-15) at 140, Tanner Regenwether (21-13) at 145, Mitch Wantock (13-2) at 171 and A.J. Garcia (43-4) at 215.

Prairie's contestants are Jayden Flege (29-13) at 112, Chris Walters (36-6) at 119, Zach Becicka (18-10) at 125, Zach Witte (34-0) at 145, Cam Rathje (29-5) at 152, Peyton Wagner (27-13) at 160 and Andrew Netolicky (38-8) at 189.

Kennedy's four wrestlers are Luke Kremer (36-3) at 135, Ryan Rodriguez (28-11) at 140, Jordan Baskerville (21-12) at 160 and Ryan Sheldon (38-1) at 171.

Washington's four grapplers are Trey Schuler (21-11) at 103, Jordin Eicher (17-17) at 125, Kaiser Herz (20-16) at 140 and Tyler Burrell (29-7) at 285.

Jefferson's trio at the state tournament are Blake Carson (29-10) at 135, Riley Welsh (14-9) at 189 and Conner Herman (34-2) at 215.

Braxton Chicchelly (38-6) will wrestle for Xavier at 130 pounds, and Alex Hunter (25-8) will compete for Marion at 119.
