Sweeney, boosters honored by Jefferson

Kellen Sweeney was inducted into the Jefferson Baseball Hall of Fame Friday during a ceremony at the high school.

Sweeney, who graduated in 2010, finished his Jefferson baseball career with a .456 batting average and ranks in the top-4 in hits, doubles, walks and batting average.

Sweeney, a shortstop and pitcher, was named all-Metro, all-Mississippi Valley Conference and all-state during his career. He was also named a Louisville Slugger and AFLAC All-American.

Sweeney was selected in the second round of the 2010 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays and is playing in their minor league system.

Jefferson also made new inductions into its Booster Club Hall of Fame Friday night. Jennifer Schlee, Jim and Mary Quass, and the L&S Lawn Care company owned by Steve and Lisa Carney were recognized for their service to the J-Hawks.
