Riders on brink of elimination

DUBUQUE - Robby Darrar scored the only goal of the game at 11:11 of the second period and Dubuque's defense did the rest as the Fighting Saints downed the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 1-0, in Game 3 of their USHL playoff series Friday night before 2,848 fans at the Mystique Ice Center.

The win gives Dubuque a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 series. The defending Clark Cup champions can close out the series with a win at home on Saturday night. A RoughRiders win Saturday would force a decisive fifth game Monday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Dubuque goaltender Kevin Reich stopped all 27 shots he faced while Cedar Rapids' Danny Tirone stopped 32 of 33 shots. The Riders went 0-for-3 on the power play while Dubuque was 0-for-2 with the extra man.

Cedar Rapids   0 0 0 - 0
Dubuque        0 1 0 - 1
