'Game on 380 Sports' will serve area kids

Doug Yanecek, Steve Wise and Todd Ambrosy have devoted a good portion of their lives to youth sports activities as coaches, officials and program directors in the Metro area. Now they have combined their skills into a new organization called "Game on 380 Sports" that will carry their passions even further.

"Game on 380 Sports" has been created to help youth teams and coaches host events and keep prices affordable. They also plan to stage their own events and will be involved with basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball.

They plan to charge a modest fee for their services, but plan to keep costs as low as possible and help groups use events as fundraisers.

"None of us are doing this for a full-time job," Yanecek said Tuesday. "None of us are doing it to be millionaires or make it our living.

"Our motivation is to offer some events that have not been been available to kids around here."

Yanecek said his group plans to stage events at school, municipal and private facilities in the I-380 corridor.

The first event on their schedule is a youth basketball tournament Nov. 7-8 for 3rd through 8th graders at the College Community middle schools. They plan a variety of other basketball events this fall and winter, then will get into baseball and softball in the spring and summer and volleyball next fall.

They also plan to stage youth clinics, featuring high school and college coaches and former minor league players.

"Game on 380 Sports" plans to serve kids from 3rd grade to 11th grade in the various sports.

Yanecek has run the College Community Girls Softball program and been involved with softball clinics. Wise has organized officials for leagues and tournaments in the Metro area. Ambrosy has been the Umpire In Chief for the Positive Sports Training baseball league and has been a successful youth coach.

The three men are serving as co-directors of the organization.
