Red Top, Norway sweep IVL twinbills

Red Top swept a doubleheader from Fairfax Sunday to grab an early two-game lead in the Iowa Valley League standings with a 4-0 record after two weeks.

Norway swept its twinbill from Watkins to square its record at 2-2 and move into a four-way tie for second place with Walford, Fairfax and Williamsburg. Watkins is still looking for its first victory at 0-4.

RED TOP 7-8, FAIRFAX 3-3

FAIRFAX - Nick Day belted a three-run homer for Red Top in the top of the first inning as the visitors took an early 4-0 lead. Aaron Sauegling pitched a complete game for the victors and had two hits in the 7-3 triumph.

Tyler Howe socked a home run and Reid Bonner collected a two-run double for Red Top in their 8-3 triumph in the second game. Brady Cotton was the winning pitcher.

NORWAY 6-7, WATKINS 1-2

NORWAY - Brandon Brittain hit a solo home run to help Norway top Watkins, 6-1, in the first game of their doubleheader at Norway. Christian Stekl and Robert Primrose had two hits for the Bandits. Brady Corson struck out eight batters in five innings for the victory.

Tony Solato socked two solo home runs for Norway in a 7-2 victory in the second game. Brittain belted another home run for Norway, this time a two-run shot. Ron Benich had two hits and three RBIs for the winners. Nick Stimson allowed only one earned run in five innings for the win.

DJ Utley collected a home run and two htis for Watkins in the second game. Jonny Frese had two hits for the Mudhens.
