Muhl signs 8 for KCC women's hoops

Kirkwood women's basketball coach Kim Muhl has kept busy ever since the Eagles finished second at the NJCAA Division II national tournament this year.

Muhl has signed eight new high school players to replenish his roster for the 2018-19 campaign.

Five of the new players are from Iowa. They include Jayla Johnson from Cedar Rapids Washington, Ashley Tull from North Linn, Addison Rath from Mid-Prairie, Paige Bradford from Davenport North and Amara Lipsey of Ames.

The other three new Eagles are Jheda Kennedy from Shawnee Mission West in Kansas City, Ja'hyla Gaston from Robbinsdale Cooper High School in Minneapolis, and Natalie Tomaszewski from Shorewood, Wis.

Johnson, 5-foot-9, was not a big scorer for the Washington Warriors this season at 5.3 points per game, but she displayed a well-rounded game with 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.0 assists.

Tull, 5-foot-11, helped North Linn compile a 23-1 record this year. She averaged 15.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.7 assists.

Rath, 5-foot-9, averaged 17.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals at Mid-Prairie.

Bradford, a 6-footer, averaged 15.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals at Davenport North.

Lipsey, 5-foot-8, averaged 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals at Ames.

Kennedy, from Shawnee Mission West, is a 5-foot-5 guard. Gaston, from Minneapolis, is a 5-foot-4 guard. Tomaszewski, from Wisconsin, is a 6-foot-3 center.

All eight high school seniors have signed their letters-of-intent with Kirkwood.
