McFarlane, Robertson shine in IWSL

Haley McFarlane of St. Cloud State and Sydney Robertson of Mount Mercy enjoyed big days in the Iowa Women's Softball League on Sunday.

McFarlane went 5-for-6 with two homers and five RBIs for Ironside Apparel in their two games at Mount Mercy. Robertson also went 5-for-6 with two triples and four RBIs for Emil's Hideaway.

McFarlane and Robertson produced two of the best offensive displays in the two-year history of the league.

IRONSIDE APPAREL 7,
HAWKEYE CONVENIENCE STORES 6

McFarlane went 3-for-3 with two long solo homers and three RBIs as Ironside Apparel nipped Hawkeye Convenience Stores, 7-6, in the first game at Busse Field.

Ironside Apparel scored two runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 6-5 deficit on a walk by Tawny Menster (Mount Mercy), a single by Abby Downs (UNI), a single by McFarlane, a single by Natalie Halvorson of Kirkwood and another single by Jessi Butler of Kirkwood.

Adara Opiola of UNI had an RBI double for Ironside Apparel. Jennifer Giesey of Winona State contributed a sacrifice fly. Brooke Craig of UNI pitched a complete game for the victory.

Hawkeye Convenience Stores scored all six of its runs in the fifth inning. The highlight was a three-run inside-the-park home run by Tianna Drahn of Northern Iowa. Emily Ira (Western Illinois), Paige Timmerman (Luther), Kyle Biedermann (Clarke) and Payton Bruner (Mount Mercy) also had base hits for Hawkeye Convenience Stores in the big inning.

Alyssa Wiebold (Illinois State), Ira and Timmerman had two hits in the ballgame for Hawkeye Convenience Stores. Brie Tauber (Clarke) hit a double.

EMIL'S HIDEAWAY 6,
HAWKEYE CONVENIENCE STORES 5

Emil's Hideaway scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 5-5 tie and claim a 6-5 verdict over Hawkeye Convenience Stores in the second game at Mount Mercy.

Taylor Jones of Eastern Illinois had a base hit and scored on an RBI single by Hailey Duwa of Western Illinois for the game-winning run.

Robertson went 2-for-2 with a two-run triple for Emil's Hideaway in the victory. Erin Kuba of Utah State was 2-for-2 with a two-run single. Jones collected two hits and Maddy Ryan of Coe had an RBI double.

Sarah Lehman tossed a complete game for the victory.

Maleah Georgen of Luther went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for Hawkeye Convenience Stores. Timmerman had an RBI double and Ira also hit a double.

EMIL'S HIDEAWAY 11,
IRONSIDE APPAREL 3

Emil's Hideaway unleashed a 19-hit attack and defeated Ironside Apparel, 11-3, in the third and final game at Mount Mercy.

Robertson went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Emil's Hideaway. Katie Smith, a 2018 Linn-Mar grad who will play at Ellsworth, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Bethany Koskamp (Central), Kelsey Aikey (Western Kentucky), Duwa and Megan Weber (Coe) also had two hits and Weber had a double.

Aikey pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts for the victory.

McFarlane was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Ironside Apparel. Tawny Menster of Mount Mercy had two hits and a double.

METRO SPORTS REPORT 3,
BOSCH FINANCIAL 1

Metro Sports Report collected only one hit in the ballgame, but eight walks helped them score three times in a 3-1 victory over Bosch Financial in the first game of their doubleheader at Simpson College.

Melanie Rasmussen of Missouri Western had the only hit for Metro Sports Report and scored a run. Megan Rushing of South Dakota State had an RBI for the winners.

Abby Carlin of Western Illinois and Olivia Goodale of Missouri Western held Bosch Financial to one run on five hits. Cassidy Blackford of Western Kentucky drove in a run for Bosch Financial.

BOSCH FINANCIAL 9,
METRO SPORTS REPORT 2

Izzy Collins of Southeastern Community College went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs as Bosch Financial defeated Metro Sports Report, 9-2, in the second game to earn a split of their doubleheader.

Madi Parrott of Northwestern Oklahoma State had two hits for Bosch Financial. Emma Olejniczak of Northern Iowa had a double and drove in two runs. Sheridan Thompson scored three runs.

Blackford tossed a complete game for Bosch Financial for the victory.
