Kirkwood claims ICCAC softball title

CRESTON - The powerful Kirkwood softball team swept a doubleheader from Southwestern Sunday and clinched the ICCAC title.

The third-ranked Eagles, riding a 39-game winning streak, won 8-0 in five innings and 9-2.

Haylee Krack hit a home and drove in two runs in the first game. Kadarenna Sales had three RBIs and Leah Duffe went 2-for-2.

Amber Logemann (20-3, 0.44 ERA) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in five innings in the opener. She has collected 265 strikeouts in 128.1 innings this season to rank among the national leaders.

Krack hit another homer and drove in three runs in the second game. Duffe also hit a home run and Lauren Weber had two RBIs. Krack has 18 homers and 64 RBIs this season.

Sam Belz (18-0, 0.77 ERA) pitched 4.1 innings for the victory. Shy Saladino tossed the final 2.2 innings for the save.

Kirkwood visits No.6 DMACC for a doubleader Tuesday. The regional tournament will begin Thursday in Fort Dodge.
