PDF

BOONE - The third-ranked Kirkwood softball team finished with a perfect record in the ICCAC Tuesday by sweeping a doubleheader from No.6 DMACC, 3-1 and 8-2, in Boone.

The Eagles ended the conference season with a glittering 28-0 record. DMACC finished in second place with a 22-6 mark, losing all four of its games to the champions.

Kirkwood (48-3) has not lost since falling to Central Methodist University, 4-3, on March 18. The Eagles left the field that day with a 7-3 record and have won 41 straight since then, setting a school record for consecutive victories.

Kayla Tatge, who leads the nation in home runs, slugged her 22nd in the opener Tuesday. Krysta Tutsch drove in two runs, Lauren Smith went 2-for-3 and Kristen Winter was 2-for-4.

Tutsch hit a home run, went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs in the second game. Tatge drove in two runs and Leah Duffe was 2-for-4.

Shy Saladino (9-0) and Sam Belz (19-0) pitched complete games for Kirkwood. Coach Joe Yegge was able to rest Amber Logemann, his top pitcher, for the regional tournament because the Eagles had already clinched the conference title.

The regional tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday in Fort Dodge.
