The Kirkwood men's golf team captured the NJCAA Region XI title Tuesday with a 20-stroke victory at Hunters Ridge in Marion.

The Eagles won their ninth regional title in the last 10 years.

Kirkwood (52-7) earned a spot in the national tournament in Scottsboro, Ala., on May 21-24.

Ryan Johnson, a sophomore from Elgin, earned medalist honors for Kirkwood with a 36-hole score of 76-71--147. It's the eighth time in the last 10 years that a Kirkwood golfer claimed top honors.

Kirkwood sophomores Mitch Jacobi and Marcus Giltner tied for second place at 148. Giltner fired a 69 on Tuesday for the best round of the two-day event.
