Coe suffered its fourth straight loss in an Iowa Conference game against Luther Saturday afternoon at Eby Fieldhouse, 90-70.

“I thought we were pretty good offensively all night, they were just great offensively, and we couldn’t find a way to slow them down,” Coach Bryan Martin said.

The Kohawks (9-8, 1-5) held an early 5-0 lead in the first two minutes, but the Norse (10-7, 2-4) tied it 7-7 with 14:58 left in the first half and took the lead for the rest of the game.

Coe trailed 44-34 at halftime, and the gap widened in the second half.

“You just have to credit Luther,” Martin said.  “Across the board their guys were hitting shots.”

The visitors made 13 of 27 shots from behind the 3-point line for 48.1 percent and were 31 of 57 overall for 54.4 percent. John Androus led Luther with 16 points and Nathan Meyer another 15.

Andrew Wirth hit three 3-pointers and was the top scorer for Coe with 20 points. Max Schmarzo made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points. JT Vonderhaar added 12 points.

Martin said the team is taking things “One day at a time still, one game at a time,” as it prepares to face Central on the road Wednesday.

“We feel like if we can get some momentum we can be as good as anybody down the stretch,” he said.

In terms of the future, Martin is focused on the remaining eight games the team has ahead of them.

“Our goal right now is just to find a way and scratch and claw and get into the conference tournament, where anything can happen,” he said.
