Ordman resigns as Jefferson coach

PDF

Stu Ordman announced Tuesday morning that he has resigned as the boys basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Jefferson to become the new coach at Iowa City Regina.

Ordman, who lives in Iowa City, succeeds Randy Larson at Regina.

Ordman compiled a 232-160 record in 17 years as the head coach at Jefferson with four trips to the state tournament in 1999, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The J-Hawks finished 7-15 this past season.

Ordman issued a press release Tuesday morning about his decision to change coaching jobs.

"Dear Colleagues," he began. "I want to let you know that I have made my decision to step away as varsity boys basketball coach at Jefferson and accept the varsity boys basketball position at Regina High School in Iowa City.

"I plan to continue teaching at Jefferson whose students, faculty and community I respect and enjoy. This move presents an interesting new challenge for me and helps to insure that our co-head coach, Brandon Homan, gets consideration for the position (before he may be hired away by rival schools!).

"During the 17 years I have served as head coach I have had the honor of working with hard-working, considerate and competitive young men and their families - and a faculty, administration and student body that has shown great support! I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity.

"Thanks again!

"Coach Stu Ordman."

Ordman was the boys basketball coach at Shawnee Mission Northwest in Kansas from 1992-1997 and the girls basketball coach at Leavenworth High School in Kansas from 1985-91. His combined record as a varsity head coach is 433-310.

Ordman won Class 6A state titles with the Leavenworth girls in 1988 and 1989.
