Bucknam: Dunn still welcome at Arkansas

Linn-Mar star Kyle Dunn is still welcome to join the University of Arkansas track team despite his recent arrest for drunk driving, Arkansas Coach Chris Bucknam said Tuesday.

Bucknam expressed disappointment with the incident, but said Dunn's arrest will not affect his scholarship with the Razorbacks.

"I will say this: He called us right away and told us what had happened," Bucknam told the Metro Sports Report. "We appreciated the fact that I heard about it from him before anyone called me about it.

"He's an Arkansas signee," said Bucknam, who previously was head coach at the University of Northern Iowa. "Obviously we understand the gravity of the situation and we're glad nobody got hurt.

"I don't want to underestimate the seriousness of what he did and hope it doesn't happen again."

Dunn was arrested at 1:57 a.m. Saturday and charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control of a vehicle. Linn-Mar High School has suspended him from three track meets, including the Drake Relays next week.

Dunn is the defending state champion in the 400-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash.

Bucknam said Dunn called him on Sunday.

"He obviously feels terrible about what happened," Bucknam said. "He was very, very apologetic. He said it at the beginning, he said it at the end. That's why he called."
