PALO - The Mount Mercy women's cross country team captured second place at the 21st Annual Mustang Gallop at the Morgan Creek Park Trail in Palo Friday.

Cornell won the women's 4K race with 48 points. The Mustangs were next in the seven-team field with 62 markers.

Liz Mosbach finished fifth for Mount Mercy in 15:18. Sanjuanita Martin of Cornell won the race in a swift 14:26.

Iowa Central won the men's race. Mount Mercy finished fifth out of seven teams. Evan Bowman led the Mustangs in the 5K race in 22nd place.

Elisha Kipruto of Iowa Central captured the individual title in 15:07.
