Jay Kortemeyer of the Xavier football team is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Kortemeyer carried the ball 28 times for 178 yards Friday night as the Saints defeated Davenport Assumption, 30-6, with a ball-control attack at Brady Street Stadium in Davenport.

Kortemeyer averaged a healthy 6.4 yards per carry to help Xavier finish with an official 291 yards on the ground.

Davenport Assumption was ranked No.5 in Class 3A heading into the ballgame. Xavier stayed No.1 in the Class 3A rankings Sunday with the victory.

Kortemeyer rushed for 207 yards last year for the Saints as a junior.

Xavier hosts third-ranked Solon Friday night in the featured Class 3A game in the state.
