WATERLOO - The Cedar Rapids Prairie wrestling team suffered a pair of tight losses in the championship round of the 5th Annual Battle of Waterloo Saturday and finished third out of 32 teams in the tournament.
Prairie lost to Davenport Assumption, 35-34, in its first match Saturday in the championship round-robin. The Hawks defeated Independence, 39-26, in the second round, but were nipped by Union 39-37 in the final match.
Union won the title by going 3-0 Saturday, followed by Davenport Assumption (2-1), Prairie (1-2) and Independence (0-3).
Marcus England, Sam Uthoff, Seth Wennermark, Josh Wenger and Jarod Cadena won all three of their matches for Prairie. England, Uthoff,Wenger and Cadena had two pins.
The Linn-Mar Lions won all three of their matches Saturday to capture first place in their consolation bracket. The Lions topped Charles City (36-34), Cedar Falls (38-34) and Lisbon (48-30).
