Jeff girls fall short at SE Polk

RUNNELLS - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls basketball team gaveĀ sixth-ranked Southeast Polk a good battle for 16 minutes Saturday night before falling, 52-35, in a Class 5A regional semifinal game in Runnells.

Southeast Polk will host Linn-Mar in the regional finals Tuesday night.

The J-Hawks trailed by only three points at halftime, 21-18, but the hosts controlled the second half by a 31-17 margin.

Kennedy Dighton scored 10 points for Jefferson (8-15). The J-Hawks pumped in eight 3-pointers, but managed only five two-point baskets.

Ashton Donels scored 21 points for Southeast Polk (16-6).

JEFFERSON (35): Rolwes 0 0-0 0, Robinson 1 0-1 3, Kitterman 1 0-1 2, Guy 2 1-2 7, Watkins 1 0-0 3, Melton 1 0-0 2, Wise 3 0-0 8, Veglahn 0 0-0 0, Thurmond 0 0-0 0, Dighton 4 0-0 10, O'Brien 0 0-2 0. Totals 13 1-6 35.
