Butz helps Kirkwood reach .500

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Tyler Butz went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs Sunday as Kirkwood belted Massasoit, 16-5, on its spring trip to Vero Beach, Fla.

Kirkwood nipped Riverland, 5-4, in its other game Sunday to reach the .500 mark with a 6-6 record.

Butz, a Prairie grad, had a double, triple and scored two runs against Massasoit. The Eagles exploded for 12 runs in the fourth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit and cruise to victory.

Sulliam Rios Reyes, Randy Perez, Luke Hassman, Toran Shahidi and Jack Fitzgerald had two hits against Massosoit. Hassman drove in three runs.

Hayden Sloane pitched 3.2 innings of spotless relief in the second game to help Kirkwood nip Riverland. The Eagles trailed 4-0 after four innings, but they tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and took a 5-4 lead in the sixth.

Sloane struck out five batters, did not allow any hits and did not walk anyone. Eric Willis led the offense with a double and four RBIs.
