Jasmine Blue wins Metro Spotlight Award

Jasmine Blue of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Blue, a junior, is one of the top sprinters in the state for the Jefferson track team. Her accomplishments began as a freshman when she helped the J-Hawks win the 4x200 relay at the 2013 state meet with an all-time best clocking. She's gotten even faster since then.

Blue helped Jefferson defend its state title in the 4x200 relay last year. She also helped the J-Hawks win the sprint medley at the state meet and place second in the 4x100 relay. Individually, she finished third in the 100 meter dash at state.

Blue and the J-Hawks have gotten off to another fast start this season. They rank first in the 4x200 relay, second in the 4x100 relay and fifth in the 4x400 relay. Showing her versatility, Blue has run the opening leg on the 4x400, the second leg on the 4x200 and the anchor on the 4x100 this year.

Jefferson won the team championship at the Dubuque indoor meet this month with victories in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. In addition, Blue won the 55 meter dash at that meet.

Jefferson won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays at the Mississippi Valley Conference indoor meet and Blue placed third in the 60 meter dash.
