Stokes picked 11th in WNBA Draft

A second member of the Stokes family will get a chance to play pro basketball at the highest level.

Kiah Stokes was selected by the New York Liberty with the 11th pick in the WNBA draft Thursday night. The 6-foot-3 center helped UConn win its third straight NCAA title this season and was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Greg Stokes, her father, played in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings following his college days at the University of Iowa.

Stokes starred at Linn-Mar High School before joining the national powerhouse at UConn. She became a key reserve for the Huskies and finished fourth in the nation in blocked shots this year, setting a UConn single-season record.

Stokes averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for her college career. She had 18 rebounds against Notre Dame this season. Stokes was selected one pick after the Atlanta Dream selected former University of Iowa point guard Samantha Logic.
