Kirkwood ousted at regional tourney

WATERLOO - The Kirkwood Eagles saw their promising season come to an abrupt halt Friday with a 6-5 loss to Ellsworth in the regional tournament at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.

Kirkwood was seeded No. 4 in the eight-team tournament and Ellsworth was seeded eighth and last, but the Eagles saw their season end with a 32-22 record while Ellsworth advanced with an 18-39 record.

The game ended in the bottom of the ninth inning when Randy Perez, trying to score from second base on an infield error, was thrown out at the plate. Ozzie Adams scored from third base on the play to make it 6-5, but Perez was gunned down.

Kirkwood lost both of its games in the tournament. The Eagles lost to DMACC, the No. 5 seed, 7-4 in 11 innings Thursday.

Adams went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for the Eagles Friday. Luke Hassman had two hits.
