Linn-Mar freshman Lucas Huffman is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Huffman played a prominent role Friday for the Linn-Mar tennis team when the top-ranked Lions nipped second-ranked Iowa City West, 5-4, in a showdown of state powers in Iowa City.

Huffman defeated Brad DiLeo, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles to give Linn-Mar a 3-3 split in the six singles matches.

Huffman teamed with Jack Gertsen, another ninth grader, for a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles against DiLeo and Yair Abramoff for another crucial point.

Iowa City West, the three-time defending state champions, had won 68 straight matches before falling to the Lions.

Linn-Mar (16-0) clinched the Mississippi Valley Conference title with the victory.
