The fifth-ranked Jefferson softball team moved into a virtual tie for first place in the Valley Division of the Mississippi Valley Conference on Wednesday night by sweeping Waterloo East, 10-0 and 12-0, at Larry Niemeyer Field.

The J-Hawks raised their record in the MVC to 19-3. Iowa City West, which was swept by Jefferson on Tuesday night, has an 18-2 mark in the conference. The two teams are tied in the "games back" column, but Iowa City West has a better winning percentage.
