Perrion Scott wins Metro Spotlight Award

Perrion Scott of Linn-Mar is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Scott, a senior, helped the Lions finish second in the Class 4A standings at the state meet in Des Moines Saturday.

Scott ran a blazing anchor leg on the 4x200 relay at the state meet, coming from behind to give Linn-Mar the victory in 1 minute, 29.13 seconds with Sean Zimmerman, Tristan Freese and Daniel Gorsich.

Scott helped the Lions finish second in the 4x100 relay in 42.60 seconds, just 13-hundredths of a second behind Cedar Falls. He placed third in the 100 meter dash in 11.27 seconds, just 3-hundredths of a second behind the winner.

Scott also had a chance for a high finish in the 200 meter dash, but suffered a tight hamstring in the prelims and did not finish the race.

Scott burst onto the scene as a sophomore in 2013 when he placed second in the 200 meter dash and finished third in the 100. He was academically ineligible as a junior, but returned this year for another strong showing.

Scott plans to play football at Iowa Central Community College and might join the track team as well. He rushed for 985 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Linn-Mar last season, averaging 7.9 yards per carry.
