Maddie Hansen wins Metro Spotlight Award

Maddie Hansen of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.

Hansen, a senior, is one of the top softball players in Iowa. The all-star catcher is hitting .500 this season with nine home runs and 42 RBIs in 36 games.

The fifth-ranked J-Hawks have a 31-6 record and are challenging Iowa City West for the Valley Division title in the Valley Division after sweeping the Women of Troy last week.

Hansen has been playing for the Jefferson varsity since she was an eighth grader. She led all Class 5A players in the state with 69 RBIs as a sophomore in 2013 and ranked second overall in all classes that season.

Hansen has a career batting average of .455 with 25 home runs and 205 RBIs in 183 games. She has helped Jefferson compile a 166-38 record the last five years with trips to the state tournament the past two seasons.

Hansen has collected 250 hits in her career with 67 doubles, two triples, 82 walks and only 35 strikeouts in 550 official plate appearances.

She leads the MVC this season with her 42 RBIs and ranks second with her nine home runs.
