Keller brothers enjoy a good day

The Keller brothers of Cedar Rapids enjoyed a good day pitching in the minor leagues Sunday.

Mitch Keller, 19, pitched his first game for the Bristol Pirates and tossed three strong innings in a 6-4 victory over Danville in the Rookie Appalachian League.

Jon Keller, 22, pitched two shutout innings for the Frederick Keys and got the save in a 2-0 victory over Myrtle Beach in the Class A Carolina League.

Mitch Keller, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, missed the first 36 games of the season with Bristol due to a sore arm. He was the starting pitcher Sunday and allowed one run on four hits in three innings. He struck out four batters, did not walk anyone and got a no-decision.

Mitch Keller was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and received a $1 million signing bonus.

Jon Keller was picked in the 22nd round of the 2013 draft by the Baltimore Orioles. He has a 3-4 record and 3.96 ERA this season with four saves.

The Keller brothers graduated from Xavier High School.
