Mychael Brawner-Henley scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds Saturday as the Mount Mercy men's basketball team trimmed Dakota State, 81-77, at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs trailed 77-74 with 3 1/2 minutes left, but they finished the contest with a 7-0 spurt to claim the hard-fought victory.

Derik Gogg gave Mount Mercy a 78-77 lead with a layup with 1:20 remaining. Tre Wagner hit one free throw with 42 seconds left to make it 79-77, setting up a frantic finish.

Dakota State missed a shot, grabbed an offensive rebound, missed another shot, grabbed another offensive rebound and missed a 3-pointer to keep Mount Mercy in the lead by two points. The Mustangs committed a turnover, but Dakota State also committed a turnover as neither club could dent the scoreboard.

Chris Ford made both of his free throws for Mount Mercy with 13 seconds left to give the Mustangs an 81-77 advantage and the home team held on for the triumph.

Gogg, a Linn-Mar grad, finished with a career-best 14 points and blocked four shots for Mount Mercy (11-6). Ian Barse scored 17 points for Dakota State (6-9).
