3 Warriors headed for college football

Washington High School football players Isaiah Nimmers, Ross Kennedy and Matt Ackerman will be saluted in a signing ceremony in the school cafeteria Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Nimmers is signing with the University of Northern Iowa, Kennedy plans to play at Drake and Ackerman is headed to Coe.

Nimmers, a wide receiver and defensive back, was named second team all-state on defense in 2015 and was named first team all-district on offense and defense.

Nimmers caught 45 passes for 870 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and had three interceptions. He finished his career with 98 receptions for 1,655 yards and 17 touchdowns to rank among the all-time Metro leaders.

Kennedy and Ackerman received "Most Improved" honors from Washington last season and Ackerman was named second team all-district on defense. Ackerman finished with 60 1/2 tackles in 2015, including 12 solo tackles for loss.

The Warriors finished with a 10-2 record last season and reached the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.
