Guy, Drahozal join IWSL for 2018

Two of the top high school softball players from Cedar Rapids the past few years will be competing in the Iowa Women's Softball League this  summer.

Avery Guy, an all-state shortstop at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, enrolled in the IWSL this past weekend. She is currently a freshman at DMACC in  Boone after hitting a robust .514 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs last season and helping the J-Hawks reach the Class 5A state tournament.

Guy began playing for Jefferson as an 8th grader and was named  all-state in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She also was named the Mississippi Valley Conference Player of the Year last season.

Erin Drahozal, who played in the inaugural Iowa Women's Softball League this past summer, has enrolled again for 2018.

Drahozal, who starred at Xavier High School, is currently a junior at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She compiled a 6-10 record and 5.40 ERA last season for the Peacocks as a sophomore and also plays the infield.

Twenty-four players have joined the IWSL for 2018, including 16 players for the Eastern Division in Cedar Rapids and eight players for the new Central Division in Ames and Indianola.

The Iowa Women's Softball League was founded by the Metro Sports Report last year and is the only women's collegiate summer league in the state. The league will consist of eight Sunday doubleheaders in June and July for a 16-game season.

The Hawkeye Convenience Stores are the title sponsor for the IWSL.
