Eagles, Mustangs battle at Rathbun

MORAVIA - The Kirkwood Eagles and Mount Mercy Mustangs played 36 holes of golf in 90-degree heat Monday at The Preserve at Rathbun Lake with some good results for both teams.

Kirkwood is tied for second place in a talented field, albeit 27 shots behind the leader. And William Bruyeres of Mount Mercy is sitting in sixth place in the individual standings after shooting a pair of 69's.

The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday.

Indian Hills Community College enjoyed a fantastic day and stands at 31-under par after 36 holes. Kirkwood and William Penn are tied for second place at 4-under par.

Bruyeres fired a 3-under 69 in his first round Monday and did it again on his second round, putting him at 6-under heading into the final day for sixth place. He trails Tom Westenberger of Iowa Western by four shots at the top of the leader board.

Three Kirkwood golfers are 9th, 10th and 11th in the standings with Ben Epperly at 3-under 141, Ryan Morrison at 2-under 142 and Will Babcock at 1-under 143.

MOUNT MERCY - William Bruyeres 69-69=138, Thomas Schuhkraft 75-72=147, Nile Happel 75-74=149, Philip Nelson 74-75=149, Kaleb Hagge 78=73=151.
