Mustangs jump into tie for first place

CANTON, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's volleyball team climbed into a tie  for first place in the Heart of America Conference standings Thursday  night by sweeping Culver-Stockton, 3-0.

The set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 25-15 as the Mustangs widened their  margin in each set.

The 10th-ranked Mustangs and fourth-ranked Grand View Vikings are tied  for the top with 8-1 conference records with one match left in the  league season for both teams. Mount Mercy will finish the Heart  campaign at Clarke University on March 26.

Nikola Stoimenov led a balanced attack for Mount Mercy with 13 kills  and four blocks. Ben Steffen and Evan Gaskill had eight kills, Julian  Armendano seven, Strahil Svilenski five and Andrew Colantone four.

Colantone had 34 assists. Armendano made 10 digs.

Mount Mercy raised its overall record to 16-6. Culver-Stockton fell to  2-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
