Xavier girls roll into regional finals

The Xavier girls soccer team rolled into the Class 2A regional finals Tuesday with a 10-0 victory over Ballard in the semifinals at Heco Field.

The seventh-ranked Saints (11-4) will host Grinnell in the regional finals on Monday, June 5 at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to the 2A state tournament in Des Moines.

Addy Hoffman led Xavier with three goals Tuesday. Elena Minor and Paige Diebold scored twice. Tana Felton, Molly Kinney and Quinn Hanigan also scored for the Saints.

Felton, Hanigan, Hoffman and Minor collected assists.

Mel Snow made three saves for the shutout.

No. 7 Xavier girls booted by No. 3 IC West

The Xavier girls soccer team lost to Iowa City West, 3-1, in a battle of premier Mississippi Valley Conference clubs at Xavier Tuesday.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Caitlynn Daniels, with an assist from Addy Hoffman.

West tied the game, 1-1, on a penalty kick late in the first half and  added two goals in the second half for the victory.

Melody Snow made 12 saves for the Saints.

Xavier (10-4) is ranked No. 7 in Class 2A and Iowa City West (16-1) is No. 3 in Class 3A.

Xavier girls boot Hempstead in OT

DUBUQUE - Quinn Hannigan scored the winning goal on a breakaway in overtime Thursday as the seventh-ranked Xavier Saints topped Dubuque  Hempstead, 2-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match in Dubuque.

Hempstead took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Addy Hoffman tied the game for the Saints with a pass from Ellie Fischer.

Mel Snow made nine saves for Xavier.

The Saints raised their record to 10-3.

No. 7 Xavier girls boot Waterloo East

The seventh-ranked Xavier girls soccer team drubbed Waterloo East,  17-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Heco Field Tuesday.

Quinn Hannigan led the onslaught with four goals. Addy Hoffman, Sophia  Alessio and Sarah Cunningham scored twice.

Janessa Klein, Ellie Fischer, Elena Minor, Paige Diebold, Molly  Kinney, Tana Felton and Peyton Sadilek also scored for the Saints.

Xavier raised its record to 9-3.

Cougars trim Xavier girls in 2 OT

The Kennedy Cougars topped the Xavier Saints, 3-2, in double-overtime Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Heco  Field.

Kennedy took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Xavier tied the game on a pair of goals by Elena Minor in the second half. Addy Hoffman and  Caitlynn Daniels had assists for the Saints.

Kennedy scored the game-winner deep into the second overtime.

Xavier, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, fell to 7-4 for the season. Kennedy, which is ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, lifted its mark to 8-3.

Melody Snow made nine saves for Xavier.
