Tallett takes 4th at state track meet

DES MOINES - Katie Tallett of Xavier placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run at the Class 3A state track meet in Des Moines Thursday.

Tallett was clocked in 10 minutes, 25.61 seconds.

The Xavier boys finished fifth in the 4x800 relay in 8 minutes, 12.85 seconds. Josh Gerke, Beau Van Berkum, Grayson Walther and Nathan Skala  shared the baton for the Saints.

The state meet continues Friday and Saturday.

Saints make 15 events at state track

The Xavier High School track teams have qualified for the Class 3A state meet in 15 different events.

The Xavier boys have qualified in nine events and the girls have qualified in six events.

Josh Gerke is seeded fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:00.70 and is a member of the 4x800 relay that is seeded sixth. The other members of  the relay are Beau Van Berkum, Grayson Walther, Nathan Skala, Tyler Dupont and Casey O'Connell.

Katie Tallett is seeded third in the 3,000 (10:44.69) and  fourth in the 1,500 (5:00.51). Theresa Lampe is seeded seventh in the 100 hurdles.

The state meet will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 18-20.

Tallett is double champ at state qualifier

Xavier High School senior Katie Tallett captured the 1,500 and 3,000-meter runs at the Class 3A state qualifying meet at Thomas Park in  Marion Thursday.

Tallett took the 1,500 in 5:00.51 and claimed the 3,000 in 10:44.69 to earn automatic spots in the state meet.

Theresa Lampe of Xavier won the 100 hurdles in a tight race in 15.37 seconds, claiming the title by one-hundredth of a second.

Braden Stovie led the Xavier boys with a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles (57.04). The Saints placed third in the 4x100 relay (44.65) and the 4x800 relay (8:16.91).

Xavier finished fifth in both the boys and girls team standings.

Volk wins shot put at MVC division meet

IOWA CITY - Josh Volk of Xavier won the shot put title at the Mississippi Valley Conference divisional meet at Iowa City West Thursday.

Volk took the Mississippi Division crown with a toss of 52 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

The Saints finished second in the 4x800 relay (8:24.33) and also  placed second in the 4x200 relay (1:34.21).

Xavier finished fifth in the team standings.
