Coe softball team wins twice

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Coe College softball team won two games Friday in Florida.

The Kohawks defeated Defiance, 15-7, and knocked off Messiah, 6-2.

Sara Czachowski went 4-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game for the Kohawks (12-2). Paige Wieland and Brenna Winn were 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Winn belted a home run.

Mallory McArtor, Allie O'Brien, Maddy Ryan and Gretchen Lilienthal had two hits against Defiance. O'Brien drove in three runs and Ryan had two RBIs.

McArtor, O'Brien and Ryan had two hits against Messiah. Winn and Madi Miller drove in two runs.

Coe and Messiah were tied, 1-1, after seven innings. The Kohawks broke loose for five runs in the top of the eighth and Messiah scored once in the bottom of the eighth.

Coe - Softball

Coe softball wins 2 in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Coe softball team earned a pair of wins, beating Bridgewater 11-0 in five innings and Husson 8-0, Thursday at Oren Brown Park.

Maliah Fligg (3-0) pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Bridgewater with four walks and three strikeouts. She also doubled with an RBI.

Paige Wieland hit 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, Sarah Czachowski hit 1-for-2 wih two RBIs, Mallory McArtor tripled with a run and an RBI, and McCall Meade had two RBIs.

Bridgewater fell to 3-4.

Alyssa Olson (3-0) scattered three hits against Husson with two walks and nine strikeouts.

McArtor hit 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Haley Jones hit 2-for-4, and Brenna Winn had two RBIs.

Coe - Softball

Pair of shutouts for Coe softball

KISSIMMEE, Fla - The Coe softball team got a pair of strong pitching performances Wednesday and swept a pair of games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Florida.

In the opener, senior Arran Weeces tossed a 3-hitter and Mallory McArtor had a key two-run single in the fourth inning as Coe downed Baldwin-Wallace, 4-0.

Game 2 was all Kohawks as Mariah Fritz tossed a one-hitter and contributed two of Coe's 16 hits in a 16-0, five-inning rout of Mitchell.

McArtor and Madi Miller had doubles for Coe against Baldwin-Wallace. Weeces struck out 10 and walked three.

Against Mitchell, five different Kohawks had two hits. Fritz and Sara Czachowski each had doubles. Fritz drove home three runs. In the circle, Fritz struck out four and walked one.

Coe (8-2) continues its Florida trip Thursday with games against Bridgewater College and Husson College.

Coe - Softball

O'Brien honored by Iowa Conference

Coe infielder Allie O'Brien has been named the Iowa Conference Player of the Week in softball.

O'Brien, a freshman from Dallas Center Grimes, hit .667 for the Kohawks last week by going 10-for-15. She went 4-for-4 against Thomas More and had two hits when the Kohawks defeated No. 16 Kean, 7-2.

O'Brien has hit safely in all six of her collegiate games.

Former J-Hawk Olson gets win for Coe

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Former Jefferson all-state pitcher Alyssa Olson picked the pitching win Monday as Coe held off a late Muskingum rally for a 4-3 triumph in college softball action.

Earlier on Monday, the Kohawks crushed Beloit, 13-0, in five innings, behind senior Maliah Fligg.

Olson allowed three runs on six hits, including a solo home run to Laine Walker in the fourth inning.

McCall Meade had two hits for Coe, driving home a run. Former Linn-Mar prep Maddy Ryan had an RBI double in the fourth.

Mariah Fritz got the final two outs to record the save for Coe (6-2).

It was all Coe in the first game as Fligg held Beloit to three hits, striking out five and walking one. Madi Miller had three hits, including a double and a triple for the Kohawks. Meade had two hits, including a home run and three RBI.

Ryan had a double and triple, driving home three.
