Faur shines as Mustangs sweep

Jake Faur pitched a one-hitter for five innings Sunday as Mount Mercy  defeated Missouri Valley, 14-5, in the second game of a Heart of  America Conference doubleheader at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs won the opener, 8-6, to sweep the doubleheader, raising  their records to 8-8 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Faur struck out seven batters and walked only one during his five  shutout innings. Missouri Valley scored four runs in the top of the  sixth against a relief pitcher, but the Mustangs had an 11-0 lead by  then thanks to a 10-run uprising in the third inning.

Nick Sueppel went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the 14-5 verdict in the  nightcap. Cael Lambe was 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored three  runs. Michael Barbato was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for the  Mustangs. Spencer Wiskus and Chase Costa had two RBIs.

Collin Shrader was 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored twice in the  8-6 victory in the opener. Lyle Fini was 2-for-2. Joshua Neyens scored  three times. Chili Moseley scored twice.

Mount Mercy baseball splits twinbill

The Mount Mercy baseball team split with Central Methodist in a Heart  of America Conference doubleheader Saturday at the Plaster Athletic  Complex.

Mount Mercy lost the first game, 14-1, but rebounded to take the  nightcap, 6-5, and hand Central Methodist its first setback in the  league.

The split left Mount Mercy at 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  Central Methodist is 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the league.

Michael Barbato had two hits for the Mustangs in the 14-1 loss in the  opener. Central Methodist hit five homers in the game, including two  by Sergio Macias who went 3-for-4 with seven RBIs.

Willenborg twirls gem for Mount Mercy

Blake Willenborg pitched a one-hitter for seven innings Monday as  Mount Mercy defeated Cornell College, 8-1, at the Plaster Athletic  Complex.

Willenborg (1-1) struck out six batters and walked three. Skyler  Freese and Tyler Stern both pitched one inning in relief, striking out  two Rams apiece.

Nick Traysman went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Mustangs  (4-7). Chili Moseley and Nick Sueppel had two hits and scored two runs.

Wiskus powers Mustangs by St. Francis

JOLIET, Ill. - Spencer Wiskus belted a home run and drove in five runs  Sunday to help the Mount Mercy Mustangs bop St. Francis, 15-3, in a  non-conference baseball game in Illinois.

Wiskus went 3-for-5 and also had a triple as the Mustangs raised their  record to 3-7 for the campaign.

Nick Sueppel went 3-for-4 for Mount Mercy and drove in three runs.  Cael Lambe and Nick Traysman had two hits. Lambe scored three runs.  Jake Faur, Wiscus and Joshua Neyens scored twice.

Mount Mercy baseball splits twinbill

JOLIET, Ill. - The Mount Mercy baseball team split a doubleheader with  St. Francis College Saturday in Illinois.

The Mustangs won the nightcap, 9-5, after dropping the opener, 8-2.

Nick Sueppel went 5-for-5 and drove in three runs in the 9-5 victory.  Cael Lambe, Jake Faur and Nick Traysman had two hits for the Mustangs.  Lambe scored three runs and Spencer Wiskus had two RBIs.

Tanner Lohaus (2-1) pitched six strong innings for the victory. He  allowed only four hits and was charged with three unearned runs.
