Top Bettendorf wrestler off the team

BETTENDORF -- Bettendorf wrestling coach Dan Knight has dismissed 140-pounder Bo Schlosser from the team.

Schlosser, a senior and defending Class 3A champion at 135 pounds, apparently was dismissed for violating team rules, according to a story in the Quad-City Times.

Schlosser had only particpated in one meet this season.  He signed a letter-of-intent with Iowa State in November.

Diving clinic at the Univerity of Iowa

USA Diving, in association with the USA Diving Winter Nationals January 30-Feb. 6 in Iowa City, will be hosting a coaches clinic Jan. 29 at 8 a.m. at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
 
Cost of the clinic is $25 for USA Diving members and $50 for non-members.
 
Jason Baumann, Director of Education for USA Diving, will be the presenter.  Topics included will be technique, mechanics and judging.

No. 2 SC East toppled by 2A club

SIOUX CITY -- Sioux City East, ranked second in Class 4A, was upset Saturday (Jan. 8) by defending Class 2A state champion Hull Western Christian, 54-50, in the fifth annual CNOS Foundation Basketball Classic.

The loss was the first for East, which has been ranked No. 2 since the start of the season.

Former 'Mr. Basketball' Gaines dies

Chris Gaines, Iowa's Mr. Basketball as a prep senior at Waterloo West in 1986, has died of an apparent heart attack. He died Dec. 25 after being stricken at his home in Orlando, Fla. He was 42.
