Dubuque Senior wins J-Hawk Relays

The Dubuque Senior boys swimming team won seven events Saturday and claimed top honors at the J-Hawk Relays in the Cedar Rapids Jefferson pool.

Jefferson finished third in the five-team event. Linn-Mar tied for fourth.

All of the events were relay races.

Christensen rolls 438 against J-Hawks

Shania Christensen of Washington had the hot hand in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet against Jefferson on Friday at May City Bowl.

Christensen fired a 438 series with games of 235 and 203 for the Warriors, but Jefferson won the meet by a final tally of 2344 to 2128.

Allie Schirmer led Jefferson with a 388 series.

Sturtz, Gardner power Jeff by Wash

Hunter Sturtz fired a 450 series and John Gardner had a 448 Friday as the Jefferson J-Hawks topped Washington, 3025-2526, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at May City Bowl.

Donovan Trimble led Washington with a 406 series.

Gardner rolled the high game for both teams with a 237.

Jefferson boys roll by Burlington

The Jefferson boys basketball team led 28-3 after the first quarter and rolled to a 68-33 win over Burlington on Friday at Jefferson.

Royshawn Webb and Dennis McKinley each had 14 points for the J-Hawks and Adam Van Oort added 13.

Jefferson improved to 1-1.

Dighton, Oler spark Jefferson girls

WATERLOO – Kennedy Dighton scored 11 points and Emily Oler added 10 as the Jefferson girls basketball downed Waterloo East, 68-37, on Friday at East.

Dighton also had 15 rebounds for the Cougars and Avery Guy had six rebounds. Jefferson (3-1) jumped to a 25-4 lead in the first quarter.

No. 7 Jefferson matmen win twice

CEDAR FALLS – The seventh-ranked Jefferson wrestling team earned a pair of wins Thursday night, beating Cedar Falls 51-27 and Dubuque Wahlert 61-13.

Joseph Sibomana (113 pounds), Brenden Baker (120), Dalton Mastin (132) and Taylor Viktora (195) each had two pins for the J-Hawks.

J-Hawk boys nipped at Clinton

CLINTON - The Jefferson J-Hawks saw an 11-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter Tuesday night in a 52-50 loss to Clinton on the road.

Jefferson led, 42-31, entering the final stanza, but Clinton outscored the J-Hawks 21-8 in the last eight minutes of the game.

Royshawn Webb led Jefferson with 12 points. James Brown and Dennis McKinney scored 10 points apiece for the J-Hawks.

Cole Pennock paced Clinton with 14 points.

Emily Oler leads J-Hawks to victory

Emily Oler tossed in 15 points Tuesday as the Jefferson girls basketball team defeated Dubuque Hempstead, 56-38, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Jefferson.

Avery Guy collected 11 points and seven assists for the J-Hawks. Kennedy Dighton grabbed eight rebounds.

Jefferson raced to a 33-11 lead at halftime.

Hummell & Hummell power J-Hawks

WATERLOO – Luke and Paul Hummell each won a pair of individual events and powered the Jefferson boys swimming team to a 100-70 win over Waterloo West on Tuesday at Central Pool.

Luke Hummell won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles in 54.12 and 2:01.24, respectively, for the J-Hawks. Paul Hummell won the 50 freestyle (23.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.14).

Also, Nate Homan won the 100 butterfly for Jefferson (1:01.15) and Max McChesney won the 500 freestyle (5:35.07). The J-Hawks also took the 200 medley (1:46.40), 200 freestyle (1:36.03) and 400 freestyle relays (3:37.68).

Dighton leads J-Hawks by Bettendorf

Kennedy Dighton popped in 17 points Saturday as Jefferson bumped off Bettendorf, 55-42, in a non-conference girls basketball game at Jefferson.

Dighton made 7-of-12 shots from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Kylie Wise made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points for the J-Hawks (1-1) and Avery Guy added 10 points.

Emily Ivory hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Bettendorf.
