Olson, Konigsmark spark J-Hawks

Jacob Olson poured in 30 points Friday night and Tyler Konigsmark added 24 as the Jefferson J-Hawks spanked Iowa City High, 80-50, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Jefferson.

Olson and Konigsmark outscored the Little Hawks all by themselves, 54-50, as the J-Hawks raised their records to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the league. Olson nailed three 3-pointers and went 13 for 15 at the foul line.

Logan LaFauce topped Iowa City High with 15 points.

Lorenzen powers City High by J-Hawks

IOWA CITY - Haley Lorenzen collected 30 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots Friday night as No.1 Iowa City High bounced Jefferson, 72-41, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Iowa City.

The Little Hawks raised their record to 18-0.

Kennedy Dighton led Jefferson (7-10) with 14 points. Amanda Ollinger had 10.

J-Hawks torch the lanes in win over Xavier

Jefferson's team had the groove Friday at May City Bowl and the J-Hawks overwhelmed Xavier, 3317-2967, in boys bowling.

Victor Baccam rolled a 514 series and Tyler Fowler a 501 for the J-Hawks. Hunter Sturtz added a 467 and Austin Kluth a 437.

Fowler rolled high game with a 289. Baccam had a 278 and Sturtz a 267.

Caleb Miller rolled a 482 series to lead Xavier. Sam Hart had a 430. Miller also had high game for the Saints with a 259.

No.7 Prairie grapplers handle J-Hawks

The surging Jefferson wrestling team has enjoyed a special season this year with upset victories over Linn-Mar and Iowa City West, so the Prairie Hawks knew the J-Hawks would be gunning for their hides as well Thursday night.

The Prairie matmen did not say much about the challenge before the meet, but they spoke volumes with their performance on the mat.

The seventh-ranked Hawks surged to a 32-10 lead and claimed an impressive 35-25 victory in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet on Senior Night at Jefferson.

Prairie Coach Blake Williams did not spend a lot of time - if any - reminding his guys that the J-Hawks were a dangerous club that had already taken care of Linn-Mar and Iowa City West, a pair of conference top-10 heavyweights.

J-Hawks establish Cole Johansen scholarship

A new college scholarship is being established at Jefferson High School in honor of Cole Johansen, a former counselor, teacher and coach at the school.

"This scholarship will be awarded to a senior boys basketball player who shows outstanding dedication to team concepts and academic learning that Mr. Johansen has exemplified in his life," Jefferson boys basketball coach Stu Ordman announced Thursday.

There will be a ceremony to officially introduce the scholarship on Friday, Feb. 7 at Jefferson between games of a varsity doubleheader against Kennedy.

Ollinger leads J-Hawks by Rams

Amanda Ollinger poured in 25 points Tuesday night as the Jefferson J-Hawks defeated Dubuque Senior, 65-51, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Jefferson.

Kennedy Dighton scored 12 points as Jefferson squared its MVC record at 5-5. The J-Hawks are 7-9 overall.

Emma Noel and Makenzie Williams scored 16 points apiece for Dubuque Senior (4-13, 0-9).

 

No.1 Rams roll by J-Hawks, 73-46

DUBUQUE - The Jefferson J-Hawks became the latest Mississippi Valley Conference team to have an unhappy experience with top-ranked Dubuque Senior.

Kyle Haber scored 25 points and Luke McDonnell added 19 Tuesday night as the Rams spanked Jefferson, 73-46, in Dubuque.

Jacob Olson netted 19 points for the J-Hawks (3-10, 1-8).

Dubuque Senior raised its records to 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the MVC.

J-Hawks fall to Hempstead boys, 59-57

Jacob Olson and Tyler Konigsmark combined for 45 points, but Jefferson was beaten by Dubuque Hempstead, 59-57, Friday night in MVC boys basketball at Jefferson.

HEMPSTEAD (59): Smith 3 0-0 7, Wilson 3 6-7 14, Paulsen 0 2-2 2, Duax 6 2-4 16, Butler 3 1-2 8, Putchio 4 2-2 10, Rindfleisch 0 0-0 0, Keleher 1 0-0 2. Totals 20 13-17 59.

JEFFERSON (57): Olson 6 12-12 25, Cardis 2 0-0 5, J.Van Oort 0 0-0 0, Wiederin 1 0-0 2, Larson 2 0-0 5, A.Van Oort 0 0-0 0, Konigsmark 8 1-2 20. Totals 19 13-14 57.

Halftime - Jefferson 29, Hempstead 24. 3-point goals - Hempstead 6 (Wilson 2, Duax 2, Smith, Butler), Jefferson 6 (Konigsmark 3, Olson, Cardis, Larson). Fouled out - None.

 

Ollinger, Dighton shine in loss

DUBUQUE - Amanda Ollinger and Kennedy Dighton combined for 36 points and 23 rebounds, but Jefferson was beaten by Dubuque Hempstead, 66-62, Friday night in MVC girls basketball.

Ollinger scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Dighton had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Jefferson (6-9, 4-5) trailed 23-6 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Mustangs by 15 points in the third quarter to forge a 51-45 lead.

Hempstead (9-5, 5-3) put the game away at the free-throw line.

Baccam's 511 series leads J-Hawks

Victor Baccam rolled a 511 series that led Jefferson past Kennedy, 3205-2723, Friday in boys bowling at May City.

Baccam rolled games of 245 and 266.

Noah Tiedtke had a 421 series and Austin Kluth a 417 for the J-Hawks.

Nicholaus Green's 393 series paced Kennedy.
