Clifton, Conway take 3rd for Marion

VINTON - Trey Clifton (138) and Caleb Conway (145) placed third for the Marion Indians Saturday at the Wamac Conference wrestling meet at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.

Western Dubuque won the championship in the 16-team field. Marion finished 13th.

Marion boys hold Oelwein to 11 points

OELWEIN - The Marion High School boys basketball team built a stone wall around the defensive end of the floor Saturday and flattened Oelwein, 43-11, in a non-conference game at Oelwein.

The Indians led at halftime, 23-5.

Jacob Manderscheid scored 13 points for Marion (7-10). Evan Suckow had seven points for Oelwein.

Marion girls hand CPU first loss

The Marion High School girls basketball team knocked off Center Point-Urbana, 61-54, Friday night at Marion and moved into a tie with the Stormin' Pointers for first place in the West Division of the Wamac Conference.

Both teams have 10-1 records in the division with two games left.

Center Point-Urbana, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 17-1 overall. Marion, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 4A, raised its overall mark to 13-4.

Center Point-Urbana won the first game against Marion this season, 58-42, on Dec. 18 in Center Point, but the rematch belonged to the Indians.

Marion blistered the Stormin' Pointers 16-4 in the second quarter and opened a 17-point lead in the third quarter.

Chloe Rice led Marion with 19 points and nine rebounds. Mia Laube added 14 points and eight rebounds for the winners.

Marion boys fall flat in 44-20 loss

CENTER POINT – The Marion boys basketball team struggled on offense for a season-low point total in a 44-20 loss to Center Point-Urbana in a Wamac Conference game Friday.

The Indians trailed 19-12 at halftime and scored just eight points in the second half.

Jacob Manderscheid scored 10 points for Marion (6-10, 5-5).

Jace Jirak led Center Point-Urbana (11-6, 9-1) with 15 points.

Marion wrestlers pinned by DeWitt

DeWITT – The Marion wrestling team won four matches in a 52-16 loss to DeWitt Central in a Wamac Conference dual meet Thursday at Central.

Trey Clifton had a pin at 138 pounds to lead the Indians. Caleb Conway added a major decision at 145.
