Wilson stars as CVC girls win again

GARWIN – Candace Wilson scored 23 points and had six steals as the the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team won its second game in a row, beating GMG 52-40 Thursday.

Molly Hembera added 12 points, five rebounds and seven steals for CVC. Maggie Cach had six rebounds.

Cedar Valley Christian improved to 2-5.

CVC boys fall short at GMG

GARWIN – The Cedar Valley Christian boys once again kept the score close, trailing just 29-28 at halftime, but lost to GMG 53-39 Thursday on the road.

Travis Geels had 11 points and 13 rebounds for CVC (1-5). Mike Scroggs and Kelvin Ridder each scored eight points. Ridder added two blocks and Michael Johnson had seven points and seven assists.

Jacob Burt had 24 points for Garwin (2-4).

Geels sparks CVC boys to victory

NORTH ENGLISH - Travis Geels had a big double-double Monday night with 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team topped English Valleys, 50-32, for its first victory of the season.

Kyle Gustafson contributed 14 points and seven steals for the Huskies and hit four 3-pointers. Kelvin Ridder had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Kellan Coppinger scored 18 points for winless English Valleys (0-6).

Cedar Valley Christian raised its record to 1-4.

Cedar Valley girls top English Valleys

NORTH ENGLISH - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team won its first game of the season Monday night with a 44-30 victory over English Valleys in North English.

Molly Hembera led the Huskies with 14 points and six rebounds. Candace Wilson contributed 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Emma Slagle had eight points and Maggie Cach grabbed six rebounds.

The Huskies used 11 players in the victory. "The 11 that played operated as one and all contributed to the win," said Coach Ron Slagle.

Cedar Valley raised its record to 1-5. English Valleys fell to 1-4.

Cedar Valley girls fall to North Linn

SPRINGVILLE – The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team kept the game close for the first half, but fell to undefeated North Linn 57-31 Friday.

Candace Wilson scored 11 points for Cedar Valley (0-5), which trailed 23-20 at halftime.

Morgan Boer had 20 points for North Linn (6-0) and Ashley Tull added 17.
