Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

No.7 KCC women drop 3rd in row

BOONE - The Kirkwood women's basketball team fell behind by 18 points at halftime Saturday and lost to DMACC, 92-83, in a league contest in Boone.

The seventh-ranked Eagles (18-6, 7-4) have lost three games in a row.

Kirkwood trailed at halftime, 50-32, and fell behind by 20 points in the second half. The Eagles cut the margin to five points with six minutes left, but the rally ended there.

Ariel Sneed led Kirkwood with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Cassidy Clark scored 14 points, Danielle Woolfolk had 13 and Mikayla Fallon 12. Taylor Silva collected seven assists.

Hanna Haynes and Zoe Kelso, a pair of post players for Kirkwood, have been lost for the rest of the season with knee injuries.

No.3 Eagles nudged by No.2 NIACC

The Kirkwood Eagles and NIACC Trojans have played two hellacious women's basketball games this season, befitting two of the top teams in the country.

Unfortunately for Kirkwood, they've dropped a pair of heartbreakers.

The second-ranked Trojans withstood a ferocious comeback by the third-ranked Eagles in a junior college thriller at Johnson Hall Wednesday night and claimed a 90-87 victory.

Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

No.3 Kirkwood women fall to No.10 Tritons

FORT DODGE - The wounded Kirkwood women's basketball team dropped an 80-74 verdict at 10th-ranked Iowa Central Saturday in an ICCAC conference basketball game.

The loss dropped the third-ranked Eagles into a tie for second place in the league standings with Iowa Central with 7-2 records. NIACC stands all alone in first place with a 9-0 mark.

Hanna Haynes, a 6-foot-2 freshman, hurt her knee in practice Friday and did not play for Kirkwood. Zoe Kelso, a 5-foot-11 freshman, hurt her knee during the game and was unable to continue. Both players will be examined Monday to determine the extent of their injuries. Two other Kirkwood players have knee injuries, digging further into the team's depth.

Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

Kirkwood women crush Ellsworth, 79-42

IOWA FALLS - The third-ranked Kirkwood Eagles made thirteen 3-pointers Saturday and cruised by Ellswroth, 79-42, in an ICCAC game in Iowa Falls.

Tyra Polite hit four 3-pointers and topped a balanced attack with 14 points as Kirkwood raised its records to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the league. Danielle Woolfolk scored 12 points and dished out six assists.

Mikayla Fallon scored 11 points and Ariel Sneed had 10. Hanna Haynes grabbed eight rebounds.

Kirkwood rolls to top of ICCAC race

It's late January and the Kirkwood men's basketball team is sitting atop the ICCAC standings.

If they keep playing defense like they did Wednesday night, the Eagles might stay there.

Kirkwood put the squeeze on Southwestern and stuffed the visitors, 59-30, with a superb defensive effort at Johnson Hall.
