Coe women stun Simpson, 66-62

INDIANOLA - Coe outscored Simpson 8-4 over the final 2-1/2 minutes and stunned the Storm, 66-62, Saturday afternoon in Iowa Conference women's basketball.

Hannah Breitbach, Mickey Hansche and Mary Halvorson scored 14 points apiece to lead Coe (14-9, 9-3) to its eighth win in nine games. The Kohawks moved into a second-place tie with Simpson in the conference standings.

Morgan Terpstra scored 13 points to lead Simpson (14-9, 9-3). Whitney Van Wyk added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Kohawk men knock off Simpson, 75-60

INDIANOLA - Andrew Wirth scored 24 points and JT Vonderhaar added 18 to lead Coe to a 75-60 win over Simpson Saturday in Iowa Conference men's basketball.

Jacob Timm added nine assists and Vonderhaar pulled down seven rebounds for Coe (11-12, 3-9).

Matt Daoust had 11 points and Christian Fahey 10 for the Kohawks.

Devine runs 2nd in mile for Coe

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Shea Devine placed second in the mile run Saturday for Coe College at the Platteville Invitational track meet.

Devine was clocked in 4:31.18. Teammate Austin Springsteen placed sixth in the same event in 4:35.03. The Kohawk men also placed second in the distance medley.

The Coe women's track team finished second in the 4x400 relay (4:14.95). Laura Bybee was third in the pole vault (9 feet, 9 inches).

Kirstin Franklin placed fourth in the triple jump (33-8), Ashley Nemechek was fifth in the 60 hurdles (10.07), Amanda Brummet was fifth in the 400 (1:02.32) and Beth Heims placed sixth in the 3000 (11:35.05).

 

   

Coe women take 6th at swim meet

ELSAH, Ill. - The Coe College women's swimming team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the Liberal Arts Championships Saturday.

Lindsay Meade, Kenni Sterns, Katy Appler and Andi Queisner placed fifth in the 400 freestyle for Coe on the final day of the three-day meet.

The Coe men's team finished eighth out of 10 teams. Daniel Bradley placed sixth in the 3-meter diving competition Saturday.

 

No.1 Wartburg grapplers pin No.11 Coe

WARTBURG - The top-ranked Wartburg Knights won eight of 10 matches Friday night and defeated No.11 Coe, 25-9, in an Iowa Conference wrestling meet in Wartburg.

Jimmy Gotto, ranked No.7 at 133 pounds for the Kohawks, pinned second-ranked Kenny Anderson in 2 minutes, 54 seconds.

Ryan Sheldon, a Kennedy graduate who is ranked No.10 at 184 pounds, trimmed eighth-ranked Sam Upah, 5-2.
