Mosbach wins 2 titles for Mount Mercy

STERLING, Ill. – Liz Mosbach won two events to lead the Mount Mercy women’s track team at the Midwest Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Westwood Sports Center.

The Mount Mercy women finished fourth with 111 points and the men were fifth with 33.

Mosbach won the 600 meters in 1 minute, 38.50 seconds and won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4 inches for the Mustangs. She also placed second in the triple jump at 35-3, was third in the 400 in 59.75 and was fourth in the 800 in 2:24.03.

Lindsay Brunson was second in the mile in 5:28.85 for the Mount Mercy women, Nichole Sanborn was third in the long jump at 16-9.75, and Danielle Schroeder was third in the high jump at 4-11.75.

Herb, Zeitler lead Mount Mercy women

DES MOINES – Abby Herb and Makenzie Zeitler each had double-doubles for the Mount Mercy women’s basketball team in a 76-63 win over AIB College of Business on Saturday at AIB.

Herb scored 20 points with 13 rebounds and Zeitler had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Callan Timms added 14 points and Alisa Weiland dished out six assists.

Gelina Webb scored 20 points for the Eagles. Jessica Davis scored 16 points and Mary Mack had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Mount Mercy improved to 16-12 overall and 7-3 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. AIB fell to 5-22 and 0-11.

AIB upsets No.10 Mount Mercy men

DES MOINES – The AIB College of Business men’s basketball team ended 10th-ranked Mount Mercy’s 15-game winning streak with an 80-66 win Saturday at AIB.

The AIB Eagles took an 11-6 lead early and kept pace through the first half for a 33-32 edge at the break. They extended the lead to 44-34 with 16:25 left in the second half before Mount Mercy trimmed the deficit to 49-48 with 11:09 to play, but the Mustangs couldn't get over the hump and faded down the stretch.

Kyle Lamaak came off the bench to score 17 points for Mount Mercy, Ian Matos and James Boonstoppel each scored 11 points, Dondre Osborne added 10 points and Ben Struss grabbed 11 rebounds.

Brandon Eley scored 17 points with 11 rebounds and six assists for AIB. Joe Riley had 16 points and Jeremy Deemer added 11 points.

Mustangs rally to top Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Mount Mercy overcame an 11-point second half deficit, behind the strong play of guard Dondre Osborne, to top Viterbo 65-56 in a Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night.

Osborne scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half as the No. 10 Mustangs (22-3, 9-0) remained perfect in league play. Osborne also had a team-high 7 rebounds and dished out a team-best 4 assists.

Ian Matos added 15 points for Mount Mercy.

Mustang women topple Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Mount Mercy jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back Wednesday night en route to a 78-68 Midwest Conference win over Viterbo.

Christa Oldham led the Mustangs (15-12, 5-3 MCC) with 31 points, including 17-of-20 from the foul line. Makenzie Zeitler added 13 and Danielle Herdliska had 12. The win avenged an earlier 76-71 loss to Viterbo last month in Cedar Rapids.

Jenna Engh, who had 36 points in the earlier win over the Mustangs, had another strong outing for the Hawks (7-20, 3-6), finishing with 37 points.
