Women's Summer Collegiate Fast-Pitch Softball League

Ferrari, Mayhew, Christner join softball league

Three more players with outstanding credentials have joined the new Iowa Women's Softball League for the 2017 campaign.

Lexi Ferrari of Kirkwood, DoniRae Mayhew of Kirkwood and Morgan  Christner of Illinois State are the latest players to enroll, becoming  the 22nd, 23rd and 24th players in the program.

Ferrari, a middle infielder, hit .398 with 50 RBIs for Kirkwood last  season as a freshman and helped the Eagles reach the national  tournament. She earned all-state honors during her prep career at Alleman Catholic High School in Rock Island, Ill.

Mayhew, a pitcher and corner infielder, received all-state honors  during all five of her years at Bettendorf High School. She finished her prep career this past summer with 59 home runs, which ranks No. 3  all-time in Iowa, and is now a freshman at Kirkwood.

Christner, a pitcher, was a four time all-state selection at New  London High School and made the all-tournament  team at the state  tournament in 2013 and 2015. She led the state with a 405 strikeouts  in 2015 and is currently a freshman at Illinois State.

The Iowa Women's Softball League has been formed by the Metro Sports Report to give college players an opportunity to play in a competitive summer league and is the only program of its kind in Iowa.

Ira, Robertson join MSR softball league

Two more former all-state softball players have joined the new Iowa Women's Softball League, which will begin its first season of competition this May.

Emily Ira, a product of the famed program at Solon High School, and  Sydney Robertson, a former star at Vinton-Shellsburg, are the 20th and  21st players to join the program.

Ira was named the All-Iowa Elite Softball Player of the Year by the  Des Moines Register in 2015 and was a three time all-state selection.  She helped Solon make five trips to the state tournament during her  career and twice was named to the all-tournament team.

Ira compiled a 28-2 record and 0.53 ERA as a senior at Solon, with 363  strikeouts and only 35 walks in 185 innings. She also hit .588 with  three home runs and 58 RBIs that season.

Ira continued her good work as a freshman pitcher at Western Illinois  last season. She collected 137 strikeouts and was named the school's  Female Rookie of the Year. She also made the spring academic honor  roll in the Summit League and was named a distinguished scholar.

Herdliska, Drahozal join MSR softball league

Two more former all-state softball players have joined the new Iowa Women's Softball League, which will begin its first season of competition this May.

Ali Herdliska, who starred at Solon High School, and Erin Drahozal, who starred for the Xavier Saints, are the 18th and 19th players to join the league so far, with many more on the way.

Herdliska, a corner infielder, helped Solon make five straight trips to the state tournament, capped by a state title when she was a senior in 2015. She was a two-time all-state selection and made the all-tournament team at the state meet.

Herdliska enjoyed a tremendous year as a freshman this past season at South Dakota State, where she belted 16 home runs and was named the Summit League Freshman of the Year.

Drahozal, a pitcher and third baseman, was a three-time all-state selection at Xavier High School. She is now a sophomore at Upper Iowa with a promising future.

The Iowa Women's Softball League has been formed by the Metro Sports Report to give all college players in Iowa, along with all Iowans who are competing at out-of-state schools, a chance to play in a competitive league during the summer.

Bevans joins MSR college softball league

Monika Bevans, a freshman at Kirkwood and a former star at Solon High  School, has joined the new Iowa Women's Softball League that will begin play this May.

Bevans, a catcher and third baseman, is the 17th collegiate player to join the league, which is being formed by the Metro Sports Report. She hit .507 with 12 home runs and 76 RBIs for Solon last season and helped the Spartans take third at the Class 3A state tournament.

Bevans was a first team all-state selection in 2016 and a second team all-state pick in 2015.

The Iowa Women's Softball League is geared for all college players in Iowa and for all Iowans who are competing at out-of-state schools.

The season will consist of 10 doubleheaders on Sunday afternoons next summer, beginning on Sunday, May 28 and running through Sunday, July 30. All of the games will be played at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, beginning at 2 p.m. each day.

The goal is to have four teams with 16 players per team.

Alyssa Wiebel joins MSR softball league

Former Benton Community star Alyssa Wiebel, one of the greatest sluggers in state history, is the latest player to join the new Iowa Women's Softball League that will begin this summer.

Wiebel is currently a freshman at Illinois State University.

Wiebel enjoyed a remarkable career at Benton Community and helped the Bobcats win the Class 3A state title this past summer. She belted 64 home runs, which ranks second in state history and is tied for fourth in the national record books.

Wiebel was a four-time first team all-state selection, the Class 3A Player of the Year and the Iowa Softball Gatorade Player of the Year during her remarkable career. She had a career batting average of .538, drove in 272 runs and helped Benton Community compile a 170-39 record during her five years of varsity competition.

Wiebel, a shortstop, is the 16th collegiate player to join the Iowa Women's Softball League, which is being formed by the Metro Sports Report. The new league is geared for all college players in Iowa and all Iowans who are competing at out-of-state schools.
