2019 IWSL schedule at Busse Field

Here is the schedule for the 2019 Iowa Women's Softball League at Mount Mercy University's Busse Field. All of the games are Sunday doubleheaders.

JUNE 2

11 a.m - Ironside Apparel vs Hawkeye Convenience Stores
3 p.m. - Emil's Hideaway vs Bosch Financial

JUNE 9

11 a.m. - Ironside Apparel vs Emil's Hideaway
3 p.m. - Hawkeye Convenience Stores vs Bosch Financial

IWSL starts 3rd season this Sunday

The Iowa Women’s Softball League will begin its third season Sunday,  with all the games this year at Busse Field at Mount Mercy University.

There are four teams in the IWSL, which is the only summer college  softball league in Iowa. The season will last for eight weeks, with  two doubleheaders each Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The playing dates are June 2-9-16-23 and July 7-14-21-28.

Thirty-three colleges from 10 states have players in the league this  summer. There is a blend of players from NCAA, NAIA and Junior College  programs, all playing side-by-side on the same teams.

Morgan Lewis commits to Iowa softball

Morgan Lewis, a former all-state softball player at Cedar Rapids Prairie, has accepted an offer to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes next season.

“I accepted today, so it's now official,” she informed the Metro Sports Report in an email Tuesday.

Lewis, a fleet center fielder, helped the DMACC Bears finish third at the NJCAA Division II World Series last week. She hit .444 in the leadoff spot for DMACC this season with 30 RBIs and 62 runs.

Lewis was a freshman at DMACC this year and will have three years of eligibility at Iowa.

Register for 2019 IWSL softball season

The Iowa Women's Softball League is preparing for the 2019 campaign as  the only summer college league in Iowa.

All current and former college softball players are eligible. This  will be the third year for the IWSL and it has been greeted with open  arms by the players, college coaches and softball community.

There will be four teams in the IWSL in the Eastern Division in Cedar  Rapids this summer. All of the games will be played at the beautiful  new field at Mount Mercy University.

There will be a series of eight Sunday doubleheaders for a 16-game  season. Each team will play a doubleheader each Sunday, either at 11  a.m. or 3 p.m. There are no practices during the week.

The playing dates are June 2-9-16-23 and July 7-14-21-28 There are no  games on June 30 for a mid-season vacation.

Guy will join Iowa softball program

Like father, like daughter.

Avery Guy confirmed Friday that she has accepted an offer to continue her college softball career at the University of Iowa, beginning with the 2020 season after she plays another year at DMACC.

Willie Guy, her father, played football at Iowa from 1992 through 1995 under Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry.

Avery Guy said she likes the idea of extending her family's tradition with the Hawkeyes and following her father to Iowa City.

"I'm really excited," she said. "He's been one of my biggest supporters. It's really been a goal of mine."

Guy was an all-state shortstop at Cedar Rapids Jefferson. She hit .362 with two homers and 33 RBIs as a freshman this past season at DMACC, which finished third at the NJCAA Division II World Series with a 48-2 record.
