Walton leads J-Hawks by Waterloo

WATERLOO – Riley Walton had a 158 game and a 311 series to lead the Jefferson boys bowling team to a 2,058 to 1,934 win over Waterloo East on Friday at Cadillac Lanes.

JEFFERSON: Riley Walton 153-158=311, Hunter Sturtz 133-147=280, Chaise Donner 145-123=268, John Gardner 107-148=255, Tanner Bennett 96 -127=223, Logan Miller 108-88=196.

WATERLOO EAST: Bryce Staver 148-146=294, Tannis Morgan 94-184=278, Braden Smith 117-139=256, Trevor DeWiece 123-119=242, George Bowser 107-130=237, Devon Rowe 120-69=189.

Jefferson: 1,337-721=2,058.

Sturtz leads J-Hawks by Prairie

The Jefferson boys bowling team topped Prairie 3,001 pins to 2,455 Friday at May City Bowl.

Hunter Sturtz had a 236 game and a 451 series to lead the J-Hawks.

Matt Galloro rolled a 190 game and a 364 series for the Prairie Hawks.

JEFFERSON: Hunter Sturtz 236-215=451, Tyler Fowler 195-223=418, Riley Walton 203-202=405, John Gardner 185-202=387, Tanner Bennett 194-183=377, Logan Miller 179-166=345.

Hunter Sturtz fired a 450 series and John Gardner had a 448 Friday as the Jefferson J-Hawks topped Washington, 3025-2526, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at May City Bowl.

Donovan Trimble led Washington with a 406 series.

Gardner rolled the high game for both teams with a 237.

Gardner paces J-Hawks by City High

IOWA CITY - John Gardner rolled a 458 series with games of 219 and 239 to help the Jefferson boys bowling team top Iowa City High, 2937-2663, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Colonial Lanes in Iowa City Tuesday.

Freshman Riley Walton had a 410 series for the J-Hawks and Chaise Donner checked in with a 404.

Hunter Sturtz of Jefferson missed the meet due to injury.

Jeff, Prairie shine at state bowling

DES MOINES - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson boys placed second at the Class 3A state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines Wednesday.

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls, led by a pair of freshmen, finished third in their tournament.

Marshalltown won the Class 3A boys title at 3139. Jefferson finished second at 3022, followed by Muscatine (3019).

Brandon Freese of Marshalltown captured the individual crown with a 490 series. Chaise Donner of Jefferson was fifth (452), Bryan Cline of Washington was seventh (443) and Hunter Sturtz of Jefferson tied for eighth (439).

Johnston claimed top honors in the girls meet at 2989, followed by Ottumwa (2905) and Prairie (2806). Jade Klinefelter of Prairie tied for sixth in the individual standings (423) and Mikayla Hite tied for 10th (394). Klinefelter and Hite are both ninth graders.

Loyal Ulm of Johnson won the individual title with a 460 series.
