Baccam’s 501 leads Jefferson

Victor Baccam had a 501 series to lead the Jefferson boys bowling team to a 3,075 to 2,380 win over Washington on Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Chris Schuttloffel had a 337 series for the Warriors.

 

Jefferson: Victor Baccam 279-222=501, Hunter Sturtz 223-235=458, Noah Tiedtke 200-242=442, Chaise Donner 165-177=342, Tyler Fowler 175-166=341.

 

Washington: Chris Schuttloffel 204-133=337, Donovan Trimble 171-155=326, Gabe Wedel 159-166=325, John Taylor 167-141=308, Anthony Valenti 124-179=303, Zach Nading 145-157=302.

 

Jefferson: 2,084-991=3,075.

 

Washington: 1,599-781=2,380.

Sturtz leads J-Hawks over Little Hawks

Hunter Sturtz had a 513 series to lead the Jefferson boys bowling team to a 3,398 to 2,494 season-opening win over Iowa City High Tuesday at May City Bowl. Sturtz also had the high game with 279 pins.

Colby Melsha led the Little Hawks with a 355 series.

Jefferson (3,398): Hunter Sturtz 234-279=513, Noah Tiedtke 227-266=493, Victor Baccam 228-237=465, Tyler Fowler 268-187=455, Chaise Donner 225-204=429.

Iowa City High (2,494): Colby Melsha 153-202=355, Andrew Franz 193-171=364, Paul Sirena 190-163=353, Garrett Highly 154-66=320, Austin Young 140-168=308, Adam Fiagle 135-91=226.

Jefferson: 2,355-1,043=3,398.
Iowa City High: 1,700-794=2,494.

Kaness, Kluth top all-MVC boys bowling

Kyle Kaness of Washington and Austin Kluth of Jefferson have been named the Athletes of the Year on the 2014 Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling team, as selected by the MVC coaches.

Kaness was named the Athlete of the Year in the Valley Division and Kluth was honored as the Athlete of the Year in the Mississippi Division.

Caleb Miller of Xavier, Seth Tegtmeier of Linn-Mar and Bryan Cline of Washington joined Kaness on the Valley Division first team. Victor Baccam of Jefferson joined Kluth on the Mississippi Division first team.

Jefferson - Boys Bowling

Jeff girls, boys 8th at state bowling

The Prairie girls missed out on a top three finish by one pin Tuesday in the Class 2A state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes.

Prairie turned in the best Baker round with a 1088 and finished in fourth place, one pin behind Muscatine. Waterloo West was champion and Bettendorf finished second.

The Jefferson girls were eighth.

Prairie's Amber Westemeier shot a 407 set in singles and Ashley Grady a 393. Jefferson was led by Rylea Bennett's 405 set.

J-Hawk bowlers turn back the clock

Happy days are here again for the Jefferson J-Hawk bowlers.

Both the girls and boys teams won the all-metro regional qualifying meet Tuesday at Lancer Lanes and advanced to the Class 2A state tournament next Tuesday in Des Moines.

The Linn-Mar boys also qualified as an at-large team. In the early days of high school bowling, Jefferson dominated the local scene. But the J-Hawks have been challenged in recent years by up-and-coming programs like Prairie and Linn-Mar.

“It is not unusual for us to qualify both teams for state,” said venerable J-Hawk Coach Virg Cerveny. “But it's been a few years.”
