No.2 Little Hawks overwhelm No.9 Lions

IOWA CITY - Iowa City High got goals from six different players and the No.2 Little Hawks beat No.9 Linn-Mar, 6-0, Monday in boys soccer.

Scoring goals for the Little Hawks were Ethan Glenn, Fernando Pacheco, Grant Lewis, Alejandro Pacheco, Scott Tribbey and Peter Larsen.

Eby scores 3 goals in Lions rout

WATERLOO - Devin Eby scored three goals to power Linn-Mar past Waterloo East, 13-0, Friday in boys soccer.

Nine Lions scored. Kevin Simons and Hunter Wong had two goals apiece. Ben Johnson, Dexter Biddick, Phil Adams, Jordan Webb, Darrin Eby and Alexy Boehm also had goals.

Johnson and Wong had three assists apiece. Simons, Boehm, Darrin Eby and Brian Allsup had two apiece and Ryan Duffy also had an assist.

Linn-Mar is 11-5.

No.9 Lions trim Waterloo West

The Linn-Mar Lions trimmed Waterloo West, 2-1, in overtime in an exciting Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match Tuesday night at Linn-Mar.

The ninth-ranked Lions trailed 1-0 late in the game, but Ben Johnson scored in the 79th minute on a rebound to tie the contest. Jason Gingrich took a free kick that the Waterloo West goalie could not handle and Johnson put it home.

Kevin Simons scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute with an assist from Johnson to give Linn-Mar the victory. Johnson got the ball on the end line and passed it between the goalie and the defender to Simons, who was waiting and uncovered.

Selvedina Begic scored for Waterloo West in the second minute of the game.

Ramlo's goal lifts Saints by Lions

Connor Ramlo scored in the third minute of the game Thursday as the Xavier Saints blanked Linn-Mar, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer game on a cold, wet night at Linn-Mar.

Ramlo received a pass from Isaac Frisch, eluded a Linn-Mar defender and booted the ball into the low right corner of the goal.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A and Linn-Mar is ranked No.7 in Class 3A.

Both teams had scoring opportunities as the game proceeded, but neither team found the net in the next 77 minutes.

Metro teams dominate boys soccer poll

Kennedy heads up a four-team contingent from the Metro ranked in the top seven of this week's Class 3A boys soccer poll released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy is ranked No.1 and received all 10 first-place votes cast in the poll. Washington is ranked fifth, Prairie sixth and Linn-Mar seventh.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A. The Saints received all but one first-place vote.
